My studio is in my garden, just next to the chicken coop, and our 3 hens are great company and entertainment while I work, creating paintings and illustrations.
Making has always brought me great pleasure from the days of sitting at the kitchen table painting with my Dad after watching “Art Beat” as a child, to working on large canvases in oils as an adult and everything in between. When everything is in flow, studio-time can be perfect bliss. I love spotting the beauty around us, the way the light falls, colours exposed through flaking paint, a fleeting moment, and once you start looking these magic moments are all around us.
I studied art in London, Exeter, Rome and Cambridge, although experience and experimentation has taught me as much as the courses I have done. After my studies I worked for over 10 years as an Art Teacher.
I had a regular cartoon column in the Sunday Times Magazine, providing a cartoon for a caption competition each week and was a local, regional and national finalist in a televised portraiture competition. I have exhibited widely and enjoyed working on many varied projects over the years.
I aim to create artwork to delight and amuse. Where possible I try to depict a world with fewer stereotypes and cultural limitations, (hopefully a future world!), where we live in line with nature. I am particularly interested in projects which deepen our connection with the natural world and ourselves.
